The Three Torches 3/31: Elite Eight is Tonight!

The women's basketball team takes on UConn in the Elite Eight tonight.

Good morning, Trojan Family. The women’s basketball team is playing in the Elite Eight tonight!! The Trojans play No. 2 UConn at 6pm. Read all about their Sweet 16 win over Kansas State below.

🔼 Moving On! The women’s basketball team beat Kansas State 67-61 in the Sweet 16 game of the NCAA Championships. The Trojans will play in the Elite Eight for the second straight season. Freshmen Kayleigh Heckel, Avery Howell and Kennedy Smith combined for 45 points.

🔼 Diamond Wins. The baseball team faced Indiana this past weekend. The team won game one 10-5 and lost game two 13-6. In game one, the Trojans had five home runs and 16 hits. The team came back to win game three, 13-12. Brayden Dowd hit the go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth.

🔼 Revenge! The water polo team only has one loss this season, and that was to No. 1 Stanford. The women got their revenge and beat them on Saturday, 12-11. Tilly Kearns led the team with six goals.

🔼 Ranked Wins. The No. 3 men’s volleyball team beat No. 13 Grand Canyon 3-1 in match one. Jack Deuchar led all players with 20 kills. The Trojans beat them again on Saturday, 3-1. Dillon Klein led the team with 16 kills.

🔼 Battle Stats. The track and field team competed at the Battle on the Bayou. On day one, Garrett Kaalund won the men’s 200m, and Madison Whyte placed second in the women’s 200m. On day two, the Trojans won five events.

🔼 Rowing Along. The rowing team wrapped up the San Diego Crew Classic. The Trojans Novice 8+ took first place in the Laurel Kurholz Trophy final.

🔼 Downed ‘Em. The men’s tennis team beat Oregon 4-2. The men won the doubles point and three singles matches. USC is now 10-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Today’s Top Tier Performance presented by ARCO is the men’s swim and dive team. The Trojans recorded their best finish at the NCAA Championships since 2018, taking 15th place. Chris O’Grady broke his own school record twice.
