Trojan Brew 4/12: Moving On Up
Moving on up, recapping the action from the diamond and much more
Good morning! Did anything big happen yesterday with USC football? While we search the newswires, they did hire a new senior offensive analyst, but we’ll let you know if we find anything.
What all can you find in today's Brew?
🏀 A pair of Trojans are on their way to the WNBA
⚾️ Baseball Recap
⚔️ And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Moving On Up. For the first time since 2012, the Trojans have two players headed to the WNBA after being selected with back-to-back selections in the 2023 WNBA Draft.
🏀 Kadi Sissoko is headed to The Valley as the Phoenix Mercury scooped her up in the third round of this week’s WNBA Draft. The All-Pac-12 player will give her teammates a boost after averaging 15.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season with the Trojans.
🏀 Okako Adika will be joining the New York Liberty after they drafted her with the pick immediately following teammate Kadi Sissoko. The Pac-12 All-Defensive Honorable Mention will look to bring her high-scoring ways to the Big Apple—she finished last season with a 38.7 shooting percentage from beyond the arc and 1.1 steals per game.
🔼 Hit The Clutch. It was a roller coaster ‘til the very end but the Trojans held on late for their fifth win in a row, winning 4-3 over Cal State Fullerton last night.
The game came alive in the eighth inning when Connor Aoki drove in a run on a double to deep left, followed by an RBI single from Carson Wells to give the Trojans a permanent lead. Garrett Clarke came in for ninth inning relief on the mound to clean things up in 17 pitches and earned the save for the night.
The Trojans will head into their weekend series against Oregon State riding a high that no one in five tries has seemed to get them down from.
🔼 How Low Can You Go? USC men’s golf combined for a +11 second round in the Western Intercollegiate which included two players finishing at or below par.
Sophomore Jackson Rivera was on the money after shooting a -1 score while freshman Mahanth Cirravuri finished his second round with an even par 70. Both now enter the third day of the tournament in the top-30 on the leaderboard.
You can follow all the action on the Golf Channel as final round coverage begins at 1:00pm PT.
🔼 Three Cheers. Three Trojans across three different sports won weekly awards. While you get to know the award-winners, we’ll be helping build a new wing on the trophy case because it looks like USC could use all the help that they can get…
🤽 Bayley Weber was a force to reckon with in women’s water polo once again, and top-ranked Stanford was unable to handle her powerful performance in a key Trojan victory last weekend. For her efforts, Weber has been selected the MPSF Player of the Week for the third time this season and the fifth time in her USC career.
👟 Caisja Chandler was named the Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week for last week’s performance where she set a facility record at Allyson Felix Field at Loker Stadium with a winning personal-best time of 10.99 (+1.1) at the Ron And Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational. Her time is the fastest wind-legal time by a collegian this season and moved her into third place on USC's all-time list.
🥍 Emma Wightman was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for her defensive efforts that limited USC women’s lacrosse opponents to just eight goals during their weekend sweep. In both games, the graduate transfer defender made sure to showcase her presence as she posted seven caused turnovers and six groundballs. But her best game as a Trojan came against the Cardinal of Stanford, as she put together a four-caused turnover and four groundball game.
🤔 TROJAN TRIVIA
Gold Getter. Alyson Felix didn’t just get a stadium named after her because she has one of the coolest names of all time. (Which is true, but we digress…)
How many Olympic gold medals did the USC legend win throughout her career?

⚔️ ONE BIG THING
Kliff Kingsbury is joining USC football and head coach Lincoln Riley’s staff as their newest senior offensive analyst.
The accolades and accomplishments for the former NFL head coach are about as long as a commute on the I-5. He’s worked with first-round quarterbacks like Kyler Murray, Patrick Mahomes, and Johnny Manziel. He has experience at the college and pro level. And he’s worked alongside some of the most accomplished coaches in football history.
