Additional Firepower, On The Ballot, and much more!
Good morning! Everybody knows that LA is the place to be, and Lincoln Riley, and the rest of USC football, have put the college football world on notice with that exact statement. This season cannot come soon enough.
What all can you find in today's Brew?
🏀 Additional Firepower
🏈 On The Ballot
⚔️ And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 That Summer Feeling. It’s already been a big week for USC women’s golf star Amari Avery. Avery started off the week by qualifying for her second U.S. Women’s Open after winning the 36-hole Rancho Santa Fe qualifier. She won the event with a one-under par round to secure her spot at Pebble Beach from July 6-9.
Later this week, she will head to Pennsylvania where she will start in the 2023 Arnold Palmer Cup for the second straight year. The WGCA All-American has a busy summer schedule ahead of her, but for the aspiring pro, it’s nothing she hasn’t already seen before.
🔼 Additional Firepower. Another former Ivy Leaguer is joining the Trojan family on the court. Kaitlyn Davis, the unanimous First Team All-Ivy League selection will join USC women’s basketball this upcoming season for the Trojans.
The 6-foot-2 grad transfer has quite the resume with a 2023 WNIT All-Tournament Team and Ivy League All-Tournament Team selections, and earned six Ivy League Player of the Weeks. She finished her senior season with Columbia averaging 12 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. “I still believe she is only beginning to tap into what she’s capable of. We cannot wait to get started on this next chapter of her journey,” said head coach Lindsay Gottlieb.
The newest Trojan will join Ivy League transfer Kayla Padilla, and the rest of the women’s basketball squad later this year.
🔼 On The Ballot. Two former USC football greats in Mark Carrier and Dennis Thurman have been named to the 2024 ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame.
Mark Carrier, the Thorpe Award winner in 1989 as the nation’s top defensive back, was a two-time All-American and helped USC to a 27-8-1 record during his time with the Trojans
Dennis Thurman, another two-time All-American, was a member of the 1974 National Championship team and helped USC go 37-10-1 in his time with the Trojans.
All members and current Hall of Famers will be counted over the rest of the year, with the final announcement of the Class of 2024 set to be released early next year. If it were up to the USC family, these guys would have been in a long time ago!
