The Three Torches 10/4: No Doubt

Today, a few awards for some deserving Trojan student-athletes

Good morning! Trojan men’s basketball is now just a few weeks away, and while the spotlight is off of them for now, the team is putting in some behind the scenes work that will pay off later in the season.

What all can you find in today's edition of The Three Torches?

🏈 No Question

🔼 Big Time Player. For the first time in his USC career, senior Max Miller was named the MPSF Player of the Week. Miller also became the first Trojan to earn the award since 2021. In Sunday’s game against No. 10 Pacific, Miller put together a speedy three-minute hat trick that helped the Trojans out to an early lead in which they kept the entire game.

🔼 Unbeaten. After going undefeated in singles play, a pair of USC men’s tennis student-athletes will head to the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships. Lodewijk Weststrate and Wojtek Marek both defeated their opponents in straight sets in their final match of the day to advance to the biggest stage of the tournament.

🔼 Top Golf. USC women’s golf wrapped up play at the Windy City Classic with a top-ten finish and a 4-under par score as a team. Catherine Park finished as the team’s low scorer of the tournament at 4-under par, good enough for a top 20 finish. Junior Amari Avery finished as the team’s only other under-par finisher, going three-under for the tournament with a T27 finish.

🔼 We Are Family. Heisman frontrunner Caleb Williams, offensive guru Lincoln Riley, and the rest of No. 9 Trojan football will return home for a game under the lights against Arizona during USC’s Trojan Family Weekend. The Trojans will take on the Wildcats who are currently 3-2 overall and 1-1 so far this season in Pac-12 play.

Lighting Up the Scoreboard. USC football is, well, lighting up the scoreboard. The Trojans have scored 40+ points in each of the last six games, including five straight to open up the season.

Our question today — do you know the last time the Trojans scored 40+ points in six or more straight games?

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

There was no question when USC quarterback Caleb Williams was given the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors after his six touchdown performance. It marked the third time in his career Williams earned the award.

Williams finished the game 30-40 for 403 yards and six touchdowns against Colorado in a winning effort. So far this season, the QB is first in the nation in passing efficiency (217.7), touchdowns (21), points responsible (146) and yards per pass attempt (11.37). In layman’s terms, this guy is really good at football.
