The Three Torches 10/6: Taming the Wild

Today, a sneak peak at what's happening this weekend, and in years to come

Good morning! To say Trojan athletics is on a roll would be an understatement. The combination of women’s volleyball, football and soccer have combined for now 19 straight wins, and USC is not done yet.

What all can you find in today's Brew?

🔼 Another Won. For the fifth match in a row, the Women of Troy came away with a victory to move to 8-2-0 on the season. Helena Sampaio slotted the first goal with a successful penalty kick in the 24th minute of the match. Simone Jackson followed that up with two goals of her own to finish off the Ducks, and earned USC the win to keep them undefeated in Pac-12 play.

🔼 Keep On Rolling. The wins just keep on coming. Trojan men’s tennis is still at it at the ITA All-American, and singles play Peter Makk is moving on to the Sweet Sixteen after securing a hard-fought straight-set win. In the consolation bracket, Lodewijk Weststrate picked up another win to improve to 4-1 on the tournament.

🔼 Taming the Wild. USC football enters the sixth game of the season against Pac-12 opponent Arizona ranked No. 8 in the country and riding a five-game win streak. The Lincoln Riley led Trojans will look to extend that win streak to six back at home under the lights inside L.A. Memorial Coliseum.

The Trojans will be aired live 11 times on one of the ESPN networks, 11 times on the Pac-12 Network, four times on FS1 and once each on national broadcasts FOX and CBS.

Six Points. Trojan quarterback and Heisman frontrunner Caleb Williams has shown college football fans across the nation just how special he is, with the key indicator being how many points he is able to put on the scoreboard.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

For the first time in USC football history, the team announced its opponents alongside the 17 other schools as part of the Big Ten conference.

Not only were the opponents for the 2024 season announced, but USC’s conference schedule is locked in for the next five seasons, all the way up until 2028. Next season, the Trojans will face off against familiar foes in Washington and Oregon, but add seven new conference opponents such as Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan. Luckily for Trojan fans, the crosstown rivalry against UCLA will remain a guaranteed annual matchup each year.
