The Three Torches 12/1: Time To Shine

Today, a preview of the Trojans matchup against UMBC and men's basketball put up some points

Good morning! USC women’s basketball star Juju Watkins is having a historic start to the season. To put it in perspective — there’s only one other NBA, WNBA or DI basketball player to achieve the numbers she has, and his name is Lebron James.

Like we said, historic.

🔼 Got Hot. The Trojans hung up 106 points, the first time a team has scored over 100 points since 2018, en route to a win over Eastern Washington. The fifth victory of the season for USC men’s basketball was a dominant one, one where Boogie Ellis led all scorers with 28 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor, including a career-high eight made threes, while four other Trojans also finished the game in the double-digits.

🔼 Special Arm. One of the best passers in the nation has been named a finalist for the Manning Award, the only award that takes each candidate’s bowl performance into consideration.

This season, Williams was No. 4 in the nation in points responsible for (250) and points responsible for per game (20.8), No. 6 in the nation in passing TDs (30) and passing yards (3,633), No. 7 in the nation in passing efficiency (170.1) and passing yards per game (302.8), No. 8 in the nation in total offense (314.6) and No. 10 in the nation in yards per pass attempt (9.36).

🔼 Fab Five. Five Women of Troy from USC soccer were recognized by the United Soccer Coaches by earning All-Pacific Region Team honors. Zoe Burns was the sole Trojan to be named to the First Team while Simi Awujo, Kayla Colbert, Kayla Duran and Helena Sampaio were each named to the Second Team.
