Good morning! Now on the tee box: USC men’s golf. The Trojans will tee it up this week at the Southwestern Invitational, a tournament where the team has historically found success. USC has captured seven team title wins and six individual winners over the years in Westlake Village, CA.

🔼 Ticket Punched. The No. 7 ranked USC men's tennis won its ITA Kickoff Weekend Regional Championship and picked up its 17^th  straight trip to the ITA National Indoor Championships after a 4-3 victory over San Diego. The Trojans took the doubles point to start the match, while Peter Makk, Lodewijk Weststrate and Volodymyr Iakubenko secured singles points to send the team through to nationals. The win earned USC its ticket to the ITA National Indoor championship to compete on February 16th in New York City. 

🔼 Beach Days. The reigning National Champion Women of Troy have their sights set on 2024 with the official release of its schedule for the upcoming season. The Trojans will begin the defense of its three consecutive NCAA championships when it opens the spring season at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Classic in Honolulu, Hawai'i, on Feb. 22.

🔼 Weekend Split. After picking up the win on Friday night against Washington State, the Women of Troy were unable to complete the sweep of the Washinton schools after falling 62-59 at the Galen Center. USC was led by Kayla Padilla and her 20 points, which secured 1,500 career points for the grad transfer. JuJu Watkins had a solid 19 points in 38 minutes of playing time while Rayah Marshall secured a team-high 11 rebounds.

USC is off to the Bay Area next week for more Pac-12 play, visiting Stanford at 7 p.m. on Friday and then facing Cal at noon on Sunday.

🔼 Battle of LA. The crosstown showdown saw the return of captain Boogie Ellis, but USC men's basketball fell to UCLA, 65-60. Sophomore Oziyah Sellers scored 10 points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from the field, and Kobe Johnson added another eight points in the loss on the Trojan’s home court. The Trojans remain at the Galen Center next weekend with home contests against Oregon on Thursday followed by Oregon State on Saturday.

🔼 How Sweep It Is. USC men’s volleyball continued their roll with a 3-0 win over Central State. The Trojans out-hit the Marauders .493 to .104 and out-dug them 22-17. Outside hitter Jackson Reed hit .500, collected six kills, and finished with two service aces, three digs, and two blocks. Freshman setter Caleb Blanchette had 33 assists, three digs, and two blocks.

The Trojans recorded a higher hitting percentage and collected more blocks than their opponent for the seventh time this season, and reached .300 hitting for the seventh time in eight matches. Next up for the Trojans, USC goes on the road to play UC San Diego on Wednesday.

🔼 Goalie Guru. Trojan soccer is adding a former pro to its coaching staff as Megan Hinz will become the next goalkeepers coach for the Women of Troy. Hinz spent four seasons as a professional goalkeeper in the NWSL for the Chicago RedStars (2019), and Gotham NY/NJ FC (2019-21).

🔼 Terrific Trio. Three Trojans finished atop the podium in USC track and field’s performance at the Razorback Invitational over the weekend. William Jones won the men's 400m, with a personal record of 45.24, JC Stevenson took home first place in the men's 60m dash with a PR of 6.61, moving him to a tie for eighth on USC's all-time list, and Temi Ojora won the women's triple jump with a personal record of 13.77m.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

Legendary USC women's basketball alum Cheryl Miller has been announced as one of 10 distinguished Californians who will be inducted into the California Hall of Fame. The 17th class of inductees includes a grouping of leaders who span various sectors of science, public service, entertainment, and sports.

A four-time All-American and three-time Naismith Award recipient at USC, Miller also starred as a member of Team USA, winning a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics. She also holds a place both in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Miller also returned to USC as the fourth head coach for the Women of Troy, guiding such greats as Lisa Leslie and Tina Thompson and winning a conference crown during her two-season tenure from 1993-95.
