The Three Torches 6/26: Trojan Takeover
For The Flag, Piece of History, and much more!
Good morning! USC is stationed in the best location when it comes to the views of the city. Even after a year of living in Los Angeles, like the rest of us, Coach Lincoln Riley can’t get enough of that striking skyline.
What all can you find in today's Brew?

📈 STOCK UP
🔼 For The Flag. USC baseball head coach Andy Stankiewicz helped the Trojans achieve some milestones this season that the program hasn’t seen for some time, and now, he will hope to do the same for Team USA.
June 30th - July 4th: The U.S. will compete against Chinese Taipei in the International Friendship Series
July 7th - July 12th: In a collegiate version of this year’s World Baseball Classic, the collegiate stars will face off against Japan in a five game series.
Coach Stankiewicz will help the U.S. earn some wins this summer as part of the 2023 National Collegiate Team USA coaching staff. This week, he, as well as 10 other coaches from across the collegiate and professional baseball landscape will help the team get ready during training camp.
🔼 Piece Of History. LA is one of the homes of baseball, and the Dodgers are right in the thick of things as the MLB season starts to heat up. Feeling like making your way out to a game? Maybe consider visiting Dodgers Stadium on August 10th to get your very own bobblehead of our 2022 Heisman winner, Caleb Williams. There simply isn’t a better way to show your LA sports fandom than with this item, so mark your calendars and get this piece of history.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING
Last season’s sharp shooter, Drew Peterson, has found his way onto an NBA roster after signing a two-way contract with the 2023 Eastern Conference Champion Miami Heat.
During his time with the Trojans, Peterson scored 1,205 points to become the 43rd player in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team for the second consecutive season this past year, and finished the year averaging 13.9 points, and averaged 6.2 rebounds per game, a team high.
He also joins former foe, Jaime Jaquez, from the Trojans’ cross-town rival on the Heat. Peterson will get his first minutes as a pro baller during the NBA Summer League later next month in Las Vegas.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER
Answer: Third overall!
…and it’s happened twice! In the 2008 NBA Draft, OJ Mayo was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies. Then with the third overall pick in 2021, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Evan Mobley. Next year, we could see a couple Trojans possibly break this record.
Have a great Monday, everyone!
