🔼 And They’re Off. The Trojans have arrived for the track and field NCAA Outdoor Championships, and through two days, a lot has happened. One of our student-athletes has already come across some hardware to bring back home to LA, with more likely soon to follow.

  • Nikolaos Polychroniou took fifth in the hammer throw after setting a personal record with a throw of 72.65 meters. Not only did he secure a spot on the podium for his efforts and First Team All-American honors, he also snagged the first four points for the USC men’s team.

  • Tade Ojora did what he does best, survive and advance. The sprinter advanced to the finals after a fifth place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal record of 13.36 seconds.

  • Caisja Chandler won her semifinal heat in the 200-meter with a personal best of 22.37 seconds to automatically advance to the finals later this weekend.

  • Jan’Taijah Jones qualified for the 400-meter finals after posting her personal best 50.31 seconds. With that time, she moved up to No. 2 all-time on USC list for the event.

  • Both women’s relay teams in the 4×100 and 4×400 races advanced to the final round on Saturday for a chance at a title. Each relay team posted times that place seventh and tenth respectively in USC’s record books.

🔼 High Praise. After a phenomenal freshman season, USC speedster Austin Overn earned 2023 Freshmen All-American honors by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Overn set a single-season record for USC for his NCAA-leading 14 triples this year, and finished just three shy of the all-time record. The centerfielder also hit .314 at the plate and scored a team-high 54 runs. This honor pairs well with his All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team selections earlier this season.

🔼 Leader of the Game. Senior tennis player Eryn Cayetano heads out on a high note with one of the most prestigious honors, a 2023 ITA Southwest Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award recipient.

The two-time All-American is known for her leadership and commitment to the program. The award goes to those who display inspiring dedication and commitment to their team. She enhanced her team’s performance, as shown by her semi-finals appearance in the NCAA doubles tournament. This marks the second straight year being selected for the award for Cayetano, and is the cherry on top as she pursues her professional career.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

For this first time in USC history, the Big Ten released its 2024 and 2025 opponents for football season, and the Trojans were among the schools listed.

As it stands, USC is currently 75-30-3 all-time against Big Ten opponents, and leads the series with 11 out of 12 teams they have faced. The next chapter of USC football is coming next season, and with new opponents comes a whole new slate of action the likes we haven’t seen.
