The Three Torches 7/12: The Big Stage
Hitting The Books, Real Football, and much more!
Good morning! We know it’s a tough ask, but we need you to fill out this list of the all-time greatest athletes to come through USC. There’s so many former (and possibly current) Trojans that could make the list, so choose wisely!
What all can you find in today's Brew?
📚 Hitting The Books
⚽️ Real Football
⚔️ And much, much more!

🔼 Hitting The Books. The grades are in, (literally) and 84 Trojans finished their spring semesters on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. That brings the grand total for the 2022-23 academic calendar to 164 student-athletes that found their names on the Honor Roll.
Two Trojans stand out among the rest as baseball’s Jason Starrels and rowing’s Lillian Lau finish their careers as four-time Pac-12 Honor Roll list makers. 31 others found their way onto the academic list for a third time.
🔼 Medalist. Rayah Marshall is returning to the U.S., but not before bringing back her silver medal from this year’s FIBA Women’s AmeriCup that took place in Leon, Mexico. In her six appearances on the court, she averaged over five rebounds and half a block per game. The rising junior returns to campus decorated and ready to get to work after tasting a bit of success at the next level.
🔼 Real Football. The FIFA Women’s World Cup is now just days away, and four Trojans will be lacing it up to represent their countries on the sport’s biggest stage.
⚽️ Savannah DeMelo will be representing the USA in her national team debut in this year’s World Cup.
⚽️ Ashleigh Plumptre is playing for the Nigerian team as a familiar face in the lineup.
⚽️ Dominique Randle will be lacing her boots up for the Philippines.
⚽️ Simi Awujo, a current Trojan student-athlete, made the Canadian national team and will make her World Cup debut.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING
Here comes Johnny!
That is, to the MLB. The Trojans’ third baseman got the call that he was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 19th round of this year’s MLB Draft. Olmstead put up solid numbers in his 2023 campaign, hitting .288 at the plate with 11 home runs, 48 RBIs and 10 stolen bases (all career highs). This kid is just going to keep getting better and better.

Answer: None!
We got you with the trick question didn’t we?
USC has had a player selected in every single MLB Draft since it was instituted in 1965. Johnny Olmstead becomes the 349th Trojan to be selected in the MLB Draft in the program’s history.
Have a great Wednesday, everyone!
