The Three Torches 7/14: Off-Season Promos

The Artist, Best Man, and much more!

Good morning! Before we get down to business, we need to take a second to honor and remember Mr. C. R. Roberts. He is a USC football legend and Hall of Fame member, but he’s best known for his work in breaking through racial barriers after his USC single-game rushing record of 251 yards. A true image of greatness and a role model for all; may he rest in peace!

What all can you find in today's Brew?

🎨 The Artist
🏈 Best Man
⚔️ And much, much more!

🔼 The Artist. The No. 1 overall prospect in last year’s class gets his feature in episode two of USC basketball’s March to Madness series. Basketball is often referred to as a great work of art, and Isaiah Collier is the latest artist to choose the Galen Center as his canvas.

🔼 The Next Step. A pair of coaches here at USC were promoted to the next stage of their careers at their respective programs.

⚾️ Andy Jenkins, who was previously serving the baseball team as a volunteer assistant, was elevated to a full-time assistant coaching role. Jenkins isn’t new to the coaching scene: he won a CWS during his tenure at Oregon State and was the developmental coach for current pro Adley Rutschmann.

⚽️ Cyrus Mohseni was also in the role of volunteer assistant before being promoted this past week to be a full-time assistant coach for the women’s soccer program. Mohseni brings his vast knowledge and experience to USC, and will primarily focus on coaching up the goalkeepers.

🔼 Winners Keep Winning. The reigning NCAA Beach Volleyball champions are back at it again, but this time, they’re getting it done in the classroom.

The USC beach volleyball team received the 2022-23 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for a fourth straight year thanks to the work they put off the court this year. The Women of Troy earned the honor after achieving a year-long cumulative GPA above a 3.30. At this point, it’s hard to see anything that this squad couldn’t accomplish.

Big Picture. This trivia question can only be answered after watching Ep. 2 of March to Madness (unless you know a lot about Isaiah Collier).

Our question today — what position in football did Mr. Collier say helped him with his vision on the basketball court?

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

Last night at the ESPYS, the biggest sports award show of the year, Caleb Williams was honored as the Best Collegiate Athlete in all of men’s sports.

Williams beat out the likes of Purdue big man Zach Edey, Creighton soccer’s Duncan McGuire and Duke lacrosse’s Brennan O’Neill to take home the award. The 2022 Heisman winner keeps on adding to his already solid resume of accolades and achievements during his short time at USC thus far.
