🔼 Swinging Strong. USC women’s golf is in full swing in NCAA Regional play in Pullman, WA, and as it stands, the Trojans firmly sit in fourth place in the team standings, just two shots off of third place.

Catherine Park, who opened up the first round with a six-under 66, followed up with an even-par 72 under harsher conditions on the day. She heads into the final round in a tie for ninth with three other players. Duo Amari Avery and Malia Nam each shot a two-over par 74 in the second round, but still sit within the top-20 with scores of -2 apiece. Rounding out the fivesome are Cindy Kou and Christine Wang who shot a respective even-par and one-over par round and are tied at 25th.

The Trojans charge into the final round needed to secure a minimum of fifth place in the team standings to move on to the final round of the NCAA Championships. Stay tuned to see if the ladies can pull it out in the last round of NCAA Regional play today.

🔼 A Grand Ol’ Time. The Trojans showed their offensive power in their 12-8 win over CSU Bakersfield last night.

After surrendering three runs in the top of the first inning, Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek came through with a two-out grand slam that contributed to a six-run second inning. Runs were not hard to come by for USC last night, as Carson Wells added another four to the scoreboard after blasting yet another grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning to take back the lead and post a double-digit run game.

Despite the two grand slams on the night, Austin Overn came away with the performance of the night after reaching base four times and making possibly the play of the game with a diving catch to save a hit for USC.

Ultimately, the Trojans came away victorious, and hopefully, USC can carry that offensive production into this weekend as they head back into Pac-12 play against Arizona State at home.

🔼 More Shine. It’s been quite the successful week for Trojan Beach Volleyball. After capturing the three-peat in the NCAA Championship this past weekend, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) handed down a couple of awards to some deserving Trojans.

  • Coach Gustavo Rocha was named the AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year award in his sixth year with the program. The lead assistant and recruiter for USC has been key to the success of the team the past couple of years that have driven all of their recent championships.

  • Twin sisters, and championship winning duo Audrey and Nicole Nourse were awarded the AVCA National Pair of the Week following their performance on Sunday. They went a combined 4-0 on the weekend, and of course, won the match that gave the Trojans the NCAA Title.

Each of the awards are very well-deserved. Now, it’s time to soak in the celebration and relish in the fact that the Trojans will, again, be National Champions for yet another year.

🔼 Major Award. USC men’s water polo’s captain is in line for the nation’s highest honor in the sport. Jake Ehrhardt was announced as a finalist for the Peter J. Cutino Award, marking the 16th time a Trojan has been nominated for the award.

Ehrhardt, who wrapped up his fifth and final season with USC, finished his career as the No. 6 all-time leading goal scorer with 179 goals, 55 of which coming from his most recent season with the team. He led the Trojans to their 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022 after winning the MPSF Championship against Stanford.

USC’s captain looks to become the award’s first Trojan to win it since 2016 when it was given to McQuin Baron. The Cutino Awards will take place on June 3rd to honor the participants in San Francisco.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

We know that incoming freshman Juju Watkins has some serious potential, and apparently, so does USA Basketball. Watkins is one of 24 players across the country to be invited to participate in team trials to make USA’s U19 roster as they prepare for the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup.

The reigning Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year is coming off a season at Sierra Canyon High School where she averaged 27.5 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game. She is the first Trojan to win the award since fellow LA native, Lisa Leslie. Watkins will head to Colorado Springs on May 12th to begin USA Basketball trials. The FIBA World Cup begins in Madrid on July 15th, and don’t be surprised if you see Watkins in the mix come summer time.
