🔼 Going For Glory. It’s time to shoot low, ladies. The No. 8 USC women’s golf team and Pac-12 Champions start their push for an NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, AZ today. The Trojans, as well as the 29 other teams competing, will face off in a combination of stroke play and match play to determine a champion.

Up first, a 72 hole tournament where the top 15 teams advance to the next round of the tournament. The Trojans will be lead by Pac-12 All-Conference players Amari Avery and Catherine Park who each finished in a tie for third during NCAA Regionals earlier this month. Senior Malia Nam is coming off a top-10 finish in regional play where she shot two under-par for the tournament. Rounding out the team is Cindy Kou and Brianna Navarrosa who both turned in quality rounds a couple weeks ago.

First round action begins today at 12:25pm on the 10th tee where the Trojans take to the course in the 10-year anniversary since USC women’s golf last won an NCAA Championship.

🔼 Heads Held High. After a pair of solid rounds in the last day of NCAA Regionals, USC men’s golfers Jackson Rivera and Mahanth Chirravuri closed out their seasons finishing in the top 20. Only the top individual on a non-advancing team earned the nod to the championships, and both were outside of the running to advance.

  • Chirravuri finished his season in a tie for 15th after shooting two over-par across the three day tournament. He finished with 70-79-70 and secured a team-best ninth top-25 finish on the season. The freshman has a lot to look forward to next season.

  • Rivera finished his season in a tie for 20th after going four over-par for the tournament. He ends his season with a team-best 15th round under par and a tie for most rounds in the 60s with Chirravuri with nine.

Next season will see the return of both of these athletes. They will look to lead the team deeper into postseason play come next spring.

🔼 Championship Crew. For the 13th time in program history, USC rowing is headed to the NCAA Championships for a race to the title later this month. The Women of Troy will compete as the 16 seed in the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight categories, whereas the Varsity Four will compete as the 14 seed.

The NCAA Championships are composed of 22 teams where USC was selected for an at-large bid. In their last appearance in 2022, the Trojans finished 15th overall and tallied a total of 47 points across team competitions. The tournament begins May 26th, so stay tuned to see if USC can add another title to its long list of them this past season.

⚔️ ONE BIG THING

For the third consecutive year, women’s golf head coach Justin Silverstein has been named to the Watch List for the D1 Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year. Silverstein has lead his squad to a Pac-12 title as well as a No. 9 seed in this year’s 2023 NCAA Championship.

In his fifth year with the Trojans, he lead the team to a pair of tournament victories as well as four top-3 finishes. The award will be announced following the tournament, and you know if we had a vote, Silverstein would have that award in the bag.
